CRUISING PLANS

As you will have seen from the Immediate Plans Summary I am planning to spend the  summer and autumn of 2008 in the eastern Mediterranean. While cruising Turkey and the Aegean, I will fit in a haulout for antifouling and hope to find the right professionals to get some pending annual maintenance jobs accomplished.

By the autumn a decision will be needed regarding whether to return to Cyprus and winter there or whether to winter elsewhere. Wintering in Cyprus is the more likely.

When my plans take shape in the future, I will update the details of the where, when & why of cruising plans for 2009 and beyond.

I have not yet succeeded in doing the uploading of details of the areas sailed previously, but sometime I hope to do so.

NB. While the above and the detail in the sub-pages portray my ‘plans’ as they stand at present, I would point out that in cruising no schedule can be firm. All timings are subject to such things as "waiting for a weather window", "waiting for parts", "waiting for the mechanic" and one's speed towards destination can be affected by the weather. So far, we have always got to our planned destination, sometimes via unexpected stops and often later than our original estimates but we have always got there.

Cruising on Mantra will not be enjoyed by people whose life and mental composure could not handle one not having a guaranteed time schedule and who, if date of leaving were more important than the planned destination for leaving, could not handle possibly disembarking from an unplanned place. A cruising yacht cannot operate to an airline / railway type schedule. It is very much more relaxed.
