 CRUISING PLANS

Mantra is currently at Larnaca Marina, Cyprus for the 2010 winter.     I’m planing to set off cruising again  on 3rd July, 2010.    As you will have seen from the Immediate Plans Summary I am planning to spend the  2010 season cruising from Cyprus to France.   Exact route is up for discussion.  It is likely to be via Greek Aegean islands, the Corinth Canal, Gulfs of Corinth and of Patras, Greek Ionian islands, the south of Italy, Malta, Sardinia, Corsica, the south of France to Port St. Louis du Rhone / Port Napoleon where we would lower the mast and prepare for the canals.  Then into the River Rhone and up the Rhone and the Saone to wherever we are going to enter one of the canal routes.   I am currently researching places to spend the winter and would like to pre-book a winter berth.

Scenarios for 2011 onwards

At present I am thinking in terms of continuing along the canals to Paris and then down the River Seine and crossing the Channel so as to get to England where I think I will look for a shore base and where I will put Mantra seriously up for sale.  Again, I would discuss precise route with whoever is cruising with me.

Whether I’ll buy another boat remains to be seen.  If I were to buy another boat it would be one particularly for the inland waterways of Europe and some coastal cruising

I live aboard Mantra all the time but sometimes I am in England for short visits. When in England I am on mobile 0779 275 4711 and I am usually at Midhurst, West Sussex  I have no plans to visit UK in 2009.

My Cyprus mobile / cell phone is normally switched on all the time, regardless of where I am  -- except when I am in Turkey.  The Cyprus number is (00 357) 99 647 619. 

My Turkey mobile / cell phone number is 05314 800 800 when dialling from inside Turkey and is +9 05314 800 800 when calling internationally.

I get local cellphone SIM cards when I am going to be somewhere for an appreciable period of time and I give the number in the Immediate Plans & Summary section.

If neither phone number works then it will either be because of poor connection or because I am temporarily out of range. Please try again or send an email.

I can also be sent faxes via a number in UK. Send your fax to +44 (0)870 135 1733 and it will be sent on to my E-mail address.

I try to get a Wi-Fi connection whenever a useful one is available and I also use Skype.

If you are interested in joining me for any future cruising on Mantra for a leg, legs or possibly even on an open-ended / longer-term basis, please read below:

The likely scenario of events preceding joining as a crew member would be:

You decide you are interested enough to make contact with any questions you may have.

• Firstly, you decide you are interested enough to supply me with the information I need from you, see below.
• We communicate and, if positive and if a meeting is possible, then we meet.
• We research each other until we feel comfortable.
• We agree verbally when and where and for what leg(s) you are going to join.
• If you prefer formal paperwork or if you are going to be with me for an extended period of time then I would send to you an Offer Letter Invitation and possibly a Crew Agreement document.  However I do not consider that such paperwork is needed for cruising in Mediterranean / European waters and would only go in for such paperwork if the crew were to say they would be more comfortable with such formal paperwork.
• I get to (or stay at) the place where you are going to join.

INFORMATION NEEDED

What is required from you:

 Re-assurance that you have read carefully all the contents of this website and that you relate to what I am doing, what I am looking for, the do's & don'ts, etc and that you have no problems with what you have read. I also need re-assurance that you believe you meet the "specification" and that you consider you are likely to have an enjoyable time cruising with me on Mantra. If you have any problems or doubts, then we need either to resolve them before you join or we need to break off / postpone.

Information about you, your health, why you consider that you will not suffer from seasickness (or an assurance that you will take anti-seasickness stuff as needed), information about what you will be bringing to the party, what sailing or motor cruising experience you have had, what "skills" you bring.

Information regarding your timeframe parameters, if any.

How you will be able to support yourself, meet any "bond" requirement and participate in the "food, fees, etc" kitty for the period involved; or information about your finances to justify why you need subsidising.   Note there are no “bond” requirements in Mediterranean / European waters.
